We are delighted to have many new teachers for classes and workshops this semester. Joining our tried and true group, we have newcomers to the area Ahza Moore (co-author of When Bad Things Happen to Good Knitters), and Claudia Dunitz (owner of Heal My Hands). The new weavering instructors are Myra Chang Thompson and Karen Page Crislip.

Returning with more inspiring classes are Galina Khmeleva and Pat Werner. For the spinners and dyers, Judith MacKenzie-McCuin author of Teach Yourself Visually: Spinning will teach a dye workshop here, and a spinning workshop through the Guild.

Fibers keep getting nicer and nicer. Alpaca is very big this year and in a lot of combinations: alpaca and silk, alpaca and tencel, with merino, cotton, etc. Organic fibers are more and more available. We have a naturally dyed organic wool and cotton line, and several organic cotton possibilities. We’re looking into a new native New Mexican organic wool line as well. Then there are those luscious cashmeres, silks, merinos, bamboos….ooh lala. So much yarn, so little time. (Sigh.)

Village Wools has on-site looms and spinning wheels for you to look at and rent for try-out.  We can order the looms and spinning wheels with a reasonable turn around time.  Looms:  Schacht, Leclerc, Harrisville, Macomber, Ashford, Louet, Glimakra and Norwood.  Spinning Wheels:  Schacht, Lendrum, Ashford, Louet and Kromski.  We also have weaving and spinning supplies.

Events coming up:

Casa Angelica – Fund Raiser

The local “Casa Angelica” is a home for children and young adults with various needs. We are supporting their fundraising project. In April they will raise money by having a silent auction, selling hand made goods. We would like to encourage our customers to donate items for this auction. You can drop items by the shop after March 15th, and we will make sure it gets to Casa Angelica for the auction. Thank you for being so generous!
