COLOR: Dye Your Own
Hand-Painted Yarn: Have you
ever wanted to learn how to dye your own yarn? This is the class for you! We
will cover the basics of yarn dyeing using permanent, colorfast dyes to create variegated and self-striping
yarns. The first class will be spent learning how to prepare your yarn (wool
or superwash wool) and dyes (we will be using acid dyes); the second class
will be spent dyeing your yarn. You
will walk away from this class Y with
two skeins of beautifully hand-painted yarn. Instructor:

March 8th Beginning Silk Painting: Sign up now for what you’ve always wanted
to do – learn to draw and paint on lustrous silk fabric. Practice color mixing with French
dyes, develop your own motifs applying design principals and own a wall
hanging or scarf of your own creation.

May 24th Supplies:
Students should bring to first class, a few sketches that can be
placed on an oblong piece of silk.
(They don’t have to be artist quality – just be you). If you plan for a scarf, take into
consideration how the design will look draped on the body. A design for a wall hanging can be
vertical or horizontal. Bring
some color samples of your own design or clipped from magazines and be ready
to share with the group. Please wear appropriate clothing for
wet-work and dyes. Instructor will provide: silk, paints and a collection of art books for reference. |
