We will cover the basics of yarn dyeing using permanent, colorfast dyes to create variegated and self-striping yarns. The first class will be spent learning how to prepare your yarn (wool or superwash wool) and dyes (we will be using acid dyes); the second class will be spent dyeing your yarn. You will walk away from this class Y with two skeins of beautifully hand-painted yarn.

Instructor: Suzanne Visor                          Fee: $75 + tax

Saturday May 24th 1-5 pm

Supplies:  Students should bring to first class, a few sketches that can be placed on an oblong piece of silk.  (They don’t have to be artist quality – just be you).  If you plan for a scarf, take into consideration how the design will look draped on the body.  A design for a wall hanging can be vertical or horizontal.  Bring some color samples of your own design or clipped from magazines and be ready to share with the group.  Please wear appropriate clothing for wet-work and dyes.

Instructor will provide: silk, paints and a collection of art books for reference.
