Classes will cover the history of spinning, fibers used, hand spindles, moving onto the wheels, basics of fiber preparation, spinning & plying. Spinning is a wonderful experience! The first class will address the hand spindle, a very ancient method carried to the present. The second week, you will start the process of spinning on a wheel. Next you will learn about fleece preparation (skirting, washing, carding, combing). We will also learn body-stretching exercises to prevent overuse injuries. Spindles and different wheels will go home with students each week. You will be furnished with 8 oz roving, however you will probably want to purchase more. IF YOU HAVE A WHEEL THAT YOU INTEND TO USE DURING CLASS, PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH LINDA TO VERIFY IT IF IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION, AND APPROPRIATE FOR BEGINNERS.
