Beginning 4 Harness Weaving (from Spring Schedule)

Students will learn the basics of weaving: terminology, techniques, yarn characteristics, how to read and draft patterns, calculate yarn amounts, etc, and of course, weave. Special emphasis is placed on warping the loom so that you will master the set-up. You will put on and weave off two samplers, and one project of your choice.
Student Supplies: calculator, measuring tape, scissors, warp yarns to be purchased throughout the class and final project yarns.
Instructor Supplies: notebook, weft yarns for two samplers.

In this hands-on rug weaving class, students will explore the myriad of possibilities available to them on 3 and 4 shaft. Looms will be warped in wool, linen, and cotton threads in a variety of warp and weft faced patterns. Students will wave “round robin” style completing 12 separate rug samples. Methods of securing the weaving and edge finishes will be discussed and demonstrated. Rug types include Crackle Overshot, Double Corduroy, Double Faced Twill, a rug with a “hidden stuffer” between wefts and so much more.
